The Santa Fe-based photographer and writer Don Usner has been documenting his hometown of Chimayó, a village in the foothills of northern New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains, since the nineteen-eighties. But Usner’s roots in the region go back much, much further: his family has resided in Chimayó since its founding, almost three hundred years ago. This legacy has given him special access to a somewhat reclusive community, one that has seen immense change over the past few decades.
